All training activities can be broken down into three categories:
Conditioning: running and other fitness activities aimed at preparing umpires for the physical demands of a game
Skills: umpiring-specific activities on the oval, with a focus on things like positioning, set kick control, boundary throw ins, etc.
Theory: sessions that discuss the laws, interpretations and other knowledge aspects of umpiring
Each training session will include activities from some or all of these categories, as determined by the Discipline Leads and the Strength & Conditioning Lead.
If you are unable to attend at Elsternwick Park and wish to complete the night's session at home, the session outline will provide you with all the information you need. Please ensure you complete a thorough warm up (see above) prior to commencing any intense activity, and are using an oval or space that is safe (flat, well lit, no hazards etc).
An outline of skill activities will be provided for familiarisation, but please keep in mind that you will get maximum benefit by attending these in-person where possible, so the coaches are able to provide feedback and further instruction.
